Tricks to Defrost your Windshield

Posted on : December 19, 2014
Winter season is here again, and for many people, it’s also the season to wake up a few minutes earlier to crank up the heat and get the frost off their car windows. This is a tedious, time consuming task that many people wish they didn’t have to do. Unfortunately, not everyone has a working heater in their car. There are other methods of increasing your windshield visibility during this time of year that doesn’t require a heater. For instance, you can use your windshield wipers to scrape away a thin layer of frost and a rag to wipe up the interior moisture and water droplets. Using a rag to wipe up interior moisture may also prevent your dash from warping. Another way to eliminate thin frost buildup on the interior of your windshield is to use a chamois sponge. These sponges are made from an absorbent fabric and can also be used to clean the frost from your refrigerator or freezer.

Also available to aid in clearing frost from your windshield are portable vehicle defrosters. For less than $50, this accessory plugs into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter and can be placed by any window. It will blow warm, dry air and will help clear up your windshield. If you’re looking for a more cost effective alternative, there are items in your home that can be used to help. Fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and add a few drops of dish soap and spray it directly onto your icy windshield. The ice will be relatively melted after a few minutes, allowing you to brush it aside.

Another preventive measure is to use products that are deicers and ice preventers, which can easily be found in any auto store. These products should be sprayed on the windshield every night in order to have a frost-free morning. We want to make sure you’ve got the best advice when it comes to defrosting your windshield the next time you need to save time and effort. Hopefully you will find these tips useful and handy in the future.
