4 Causes of Theme Park Accidents

When you think of theme parks you may imagine a day filled with fun and excitement. Theme parks are a popular summer vacation spot for many people. Florida is home to some of the world’s most popular theme parks such as Disney World and Universal Studios. Though theme parks are seen as a fun get away, many accidents occur on their premises daily. If you plan on visiting a theme park this summer, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with 4 causes of theme park accidents.

Mechanical Failure of Rides

Many theme parks are home to large roller coasters and other fun rides. Unfortunately, not all rides run perfectly and can malfunction at one time or another. Common examples of mechanical failure include rides stopping randomly, stopping while upside down, or going faster/slower than it normally should. Experiencing mechanical failure can be a very scary and dangerous experience. Mechanical failure usually results in head or neck injuries.

Rough Rides

There are some theme park rides that are naturally rough. Many rides will move side to side, move too fast, or make quick jerks that can injure the people on it. If you are sensitive to rides you may want to ask what the intensity of the ride is before going on it. There are a number of cases where someone may pass out on the ride if it is going too fast or too high. This can be very serious if the individual does not wake up right away. If you or someone you know passes out while on a ride, seek medical attention immediately.

Passenger Misuses Machinery

A common cause of theme park accidents is when someone does not follow the rules of the ride. Many rides will have rules and requirements that must be followed in order to stay safe. People who ignore these rules and try to stand, stick their hands or feet out of the ride, or unbuckle themselves, can be in a lot of danger. There are many cases where an individual is ejected from the seat because they unbuckled themselves. Make sure to always read and listen to the ride’s safety rules carefully to avoid an accident.

Slip & Fall

Slip and fall accidents usually take places off of rides. These accidents are caused by spilled food or drinks. Theme parks are a common place for people to eat and re-hydrate without properly disposing their trash. Also, a slip or fall could happen while boarding a ride, going up or down stairs, or occur from dehydration. Make sure to pay attention to where you step and keep yourself hydrated all the time while outdoors at a theme park.
