Avoid Electric Injury
We know a lot of people are getting into the holiday spirit by decorating their houses inside and out. That means A LOT OF LIGHTS and glitter. However, the trouble glitter would give you is a sparkling mess. Lights are another situation. You are dealing with electrical outlets and hazardous products. You may know what to do if your house catches on fire, but do you know the procedures if you or your loved one gets into a shocking situation?
First of all shut of the power if you can, and with a dry non-conductive product such as a broom or a wooden stick. Then, separate the person from the electric circuit. Even if they seem fine call 911. If your friend or a loved one gets a shock from a high-voltage outlet, you may not be able to move them. In these circumstances call 911 immediately. The power company would have to shut them off themselves.
To prevent this from happening, here are some steps you can take to avoid an electric playground.
- Check cords for damages: cracked or loose chords can start a fire and maybe cause an electric shock when you decide to close down the lights or even walk by them.
- Protect electric cords: never squish them into small spaces nor hide them through furniture. Make sure they are not within the radius of any hot surfaces and away from rugs.
- Place them away from child’s reach: If you have kids, you know they get excited during the holidays. Their curiosity and happiness grow 3x more than any other time of the year. You wouldn’t want them touching or playing with these cords. Keep it safe and keep it away from reach but enough to see the pretty lights twinkle.
Many people would feel at home when you decorate your house with lights and tinsel. It will create an amazing and loving atmosphere. However, follow safety steps to keep your house safe and warm from any harm.
