David Beckham Brings Soccer to Miami

In 2007, David Beckham started playing for the Major League Soccer team: L.A Galaxy. When he signed on with them, his contract specified that he would then be granted the right to buy an MLS team for the rate of $25 million. Lately, he’s been setting his sights on South Florida as a place to home his new team. The reason it has taken a while to blossom is that league requirements state that new clubs must have a completed stadium deal in order to create a team and for now, there is no soccer stadium in Miami.
Fortunately for soccer lovers, the league has let the rule slide before and they are letting it slide again as David Beckham and the Mayor of Miami-Dade County Carlos A. Gimenez officially announced on Wednesday, February 5th. The league, David Beckham, and the mayor are working together to fund a project that makes sense for the public, the team, and the fans. Miami’s internationally diverse culture makes it a great place to start a MLS team and Floridians are thrilled that David Beckham chose Miami as the market for his new club.

Although it has been confirmed that David Beckham and the MLS will be bringing a professional soccer team to the city of Miami sometime in 2016, it’s still unclear what the teams name would be as well as the players or where the stadium will be. Either way, the excitement the city is showing for this new team is overwhelming and bound to grow as information is released and finalized.
