Driving During Rainy Weather

Hurricane season is here! Let us help you prepare for the endless thunderstorms and flooded streets. Here are a few tips to remember while you are driving through a downpour.

Lights on: Keep yourself visible to other drivers around you. It’s difficult to see in the rain at times. When your headlights are on, you’re communicating with other drivers around you – telling them that you are present. Light visibility prevents crashes during these inclement weather conditions.

Slow down: Speeding through the rain can cause an accident. If you speed through a puddle, it can cause your car to lose traction and hydroplane – endangering you and other drivers around you. Do not go over the speed limit while driving through wet roads. If the weather conditions make you uncomfortable to drive in, pull over to the side of the road and turn on your emergency lights until the weather clears up.

Leave some space: Keep your distance by leaving at least 1-2 car spaces between you and the car in front of you. With this extra space, just in case you need to stop short, you have plenty of room in case your brakes slip.
