Monthly Car Maintenance Checklist

We rely on our vehicles to take us to where we need to go. Though we may forget, our vehicles need proper car and maintenance as well. As a driver, you should take the time each month to give your car a quick check-up. This check list will take you less than 30 minutes to do and will keep your car functioning to its best ability.

Oil

The oil in your car is what lubricates and cools the engine to keep it running smoothly. Without clean, proper oil, your engine won’t work and can cause damage to your vehicle. You can check your oil by opening the hood of your car and locating the dipstick. By removing the dipstick, you will be able to see the amount of oil in your engine. If the dipstick signifies your low on oil, you need to add more.

Also, it is important to take a rag or paper towel to check the color of the oil. If it is black or brown in color your oil is fine. If it is a lighter tone that means your oil needs to be changed or you have a possible coolant leak.

Most vehicle need a routine oil change every 3 months or 5,000 to 10,000 miles, depending on the vehicle. It is ideal to check your oil monthly to make sure there are no leaks or issues that can cause your car to malfunction while on the road.

Lights

The lights on your vehicle signify when you want to turn, stop, and make you visible at night. Without proper functioning lights to signal other drivers, you can get into a serious accident. Every month you should take the time in your driveway to test each light. Turn on your headlights, turning signals, brake and parking lights and make sure they light up. If one of them is out, make sure to replace it as soon as possible.

Tire Pressure

The tires on your vehicle lose pressure over time. Every month you should take the time to get out a tire pressure gauge and check the air pressure. You should also make sure to know the proper pressure required for your size tires. If the pressure is low make sure to fill it up to the proper level. Do not over fill the air in the tire as it can increase the chances of it popping while on the road.
