Heart Health Linked to Brain Health

Recently, there was a study conducted that shows a linkage between heart health and brain function. Through rigorous health measurements and tests, it was discovered that people who followed heart health precautions were more likely to have a higher brain volume by the time they reached middle age.

Researchers were tracking 518 people over the course of 30 years. Through this process, the mission was to have the participants follow 7 steps to maintain their heart health. These steps included:

  1. Eating Healthy
  2. Losing Weight
  3. Controlling their blood pressure
  4. Reducing blood sugar
  5. Keep track of their cholesterol
  6. Quit smoking
  7. Maintain an active lifestyle

Concluding their results, researchers discovered that by altering the participant’s lifestyle towards developing a healthier heart, they were able to also increase the volume of their brain.

It has been shown that those with smaller brains are linked with disability and death. Therefore, encouraging cardiovascular health is the first step towards a long and healthy life.
